Taylor Eve Building Services provide garage conversion services amongst their portfolio of building services.
A garage conversion does not involve a change of use as such and UK Building Regulations will therefore only apply to the structural alterations involved and to any other building controlled works for example drainage.
A garage conversion requires little more than the filling and covering of the existing garage doorway with a suitable construction. This could be a window or a wall dependent on your preference.
Any infill required like the blocking of the existing garage door will need to be supported by either foundations or suitable lintels. This is a structural alteration and as such requires building regulation approval which Taylor Eve will advise on our initial inspection of the premises.
Taylor Eve ensure that suitable damp proof courses are incorporated into all garage conversions to prevent water entry at the new window reveals and where the new infill joins existing walls.
In some cases your garage will already has cavity walling and therefore the work required to convert your garage into an additional room is substantially reduced. If however the existing garage has single wall with piers there will be additional work to try to improve both thermal insulation and weather insulation.
